Between custom woodworking and custom woodcraft is there really any difference? Perhaps not. But Wonderful Woodcraft thinks there is at least one difference. You may be thinking how can that be there the same thing just different words to express the same thing. Okay, fair question.
So, lets ask another question on this subject, that may help to shed a little light on how we think, what what we think the difference is.
If you think back to the first time you started a custom woodworking job, what was it that made it different from the other projects you had did, what made it custom?
When I first thought about this my first answer was that it was an upgraded version of an item previously made. If your answer is anywhere close to the same then you already have your answer to what makes custom woodcraft different from custom woodworking.
That's right, we think it is another upgrade to something even better than the previous. We also think that for it to truly be another upgrade to custom woodcraft, something about the new version must set it above and beyond the other version.
No we don't mean totally redesign it. What we are saying is it needs to have a lot of attention paid to the details, and what can be added or removed to increase the overall beauty of it.
That's it you have it right, just find little ways to make improvements, and the more you do this the easier it will become. Just like everything else in life it just takes a little time for it to become second nature.
Great news once you start this process, you may find yourself addicted to using it on everything in your home also, but at least it is a productive addiction. Enjoy this new part of your creative side in woodworking.
It must also become an item that stands out from the crowd, Custom Woodcraft, it could include a richer color, with a darker color on the details, it could be changing the size of the details, it could be adding new details.
Point is it needs to be evaluated and thought of in terms of what can I do to make this a truly amazing custom woodcraft piece that I will be proud to show off.
I will use one of my stories about my journey from when I first started woodworking to how I got into the rut. This is the story of how I came to realize that this was the hobby for me.
Yes I have been doing this for a lot of years, (with breaks thrown in), I started in the first year of High School by taking the woodworking shop class. I found that I really like the feel of making items from wood. Wood working I had found my hobby!
Nothing to hard for most of the year, however to pass the shop class at year end, each of us had to come up with our own project. I looked through every woodworking book and Magazine I could get my hands on for almost two weeks.
Just when I thought I would not find anything I thought I could complete before the end of the year, my father dropped and cracked the forearm on his favorite shotgun. Bingo, I had my project, It would not be to hard and it would not take to long. And it would be my first custom woodworking item.
Needless to say I was very proud of what I had made, and even more proud when the shop teacher announced it as the most original project in the class. I think it was this last school project that started me on my journey and started my love of woodworking for many years to come.
Guess what, my father still tells his story about this, his favorite shotgun even today. And yes he stills owns it after all these years.
