Having the right woodworking supplies on hand is always something to be aware of. Your woodworking supply being adequate at all times will ensure that you do not need to stop in the middle of your woodcraft project and run to the nearest wood workers store to find what is missing. Here is a quick list of regularly used woodworking supplies, we will expand on each item after this list. Wood, Nails, wood screws, Glue, glue brush, Sandpaper, Stain, stain applicator, i.e. brush or cloth, your choice.
The wood, all easy woodworking projects, kids projects, or woodcrafts work require wood. Try to keep on hand the most you would need for any of your larger projects. If you start with any of the simple projects we listed, your list would be something like this, 2 boards of 1X4 no more than 8ft long. Suggest pine or maple for projects listed on the easy woodworking projects page. Nails, or wood screws, suggest paneling nails no more than a half inch long and uncolored. Use these sparingly, just what is needed and no more.
Wood Glue, this is the product that you will be relying on to hold your projects together properly and why you can use nails sparingly. When used properly this product will keep your easy woodworking projects together for years to come. Use the glue brush to apply the glue properly and avoid getting it spread over to much of the wood. Sandpaper, suggest that you have 200 grit, 400 grit, and 600 grit, use progressively and you will get a smooth finish with the 6oo grit. Use either, hand tool sander or power tool sander, but always finish with the 600 grit for the best results. As you expand your list of woodcraft items there will be need of even finer grit sandpaper for some of those wood crafted items. Stain, lots of choices available, ultimately it has to be your choice based on what is most eye appealing to you. And applicator also is your choice based on what you think will give you the best results.
The main thing to keep in mind for any woodworking project is that having the right supplies on hand at all times will prevent unwanted and unneeded interruptions from occurring when they are least needed.
